Job overview
The post holder will support the Preceptorship programme initiative and promote the value of Preceptorship organisationally whilst providing a comprehensive and effective continuing professional development framework. In the workplace the post holder will support and keenly facilitate the learning of newly registered nurses (NRNs) and Nursing Associates (NA) in the clinical area and in the classroom.
The postholder will assist to ensure that the preceptees practice to a high standard and achieve safe compassionate patient care and high quality care in their encounter with patients, service users and relatives.
The postholder will work collaboratively with preceptees (NRNs), preceptors and managers to promote a culture of staff support, as well as the development of clinical excellence and competency in safe and professional practice and contribute to monitoring the effectiveness of preceptorship in the organisation through evaluation feedback and audit results.
Main duties of the job
The postholder will support the systems in place that enable all NRNs meet Trust & local objectives in the preceptorship period (6 months – 12 months post-registration) in order to become confident, competent accountable practitioners. The individual will liaise and communicate with the Practice Educator for Preceptorship to identify all NRNs requiring preceptorship and others for whom bespoke preceptorship is deemed beneficial.
The successful candidate will assist in the recruitment and ongoing support for NRN, liaising with relevant team (e.g. HR, recruitment and ward managers).The postholder will support both the preceptors and preceptees understand their roles, as well as using supporting documentation consistently. The individual will liaise with ward teams to ensure supernumerary status, allocated protected time for preceptees & preceptors are maintained.
The postholder will enjoy working clinically to enable an overview of the progress of individual preceptees and identifying any development/support needs of preceptors or preceptees. Also through monitoring the database, intervening when milestones are not being met and liaising as required to better target/direct support. They will ensure practice which promotes competence in accordance with the Nursing & Midwifery Council (NMC) Code, other appropriate NMC and statutory guidelines thereby promoting the delivery of evidence based care within the Clinical Governance and NMC revalidation framework.

Epsom and St Helier University Hospitals, NHS Trust is seeking an enthusiastic, energetic, dynamic and experienced registered nurse to provide support and clinical development for our newly qualified Nurses and Nursing Associates during their Preceptorship period within the organisation. Working closely with the Practice Educator for Preceptorship to ensure clear processes are in place across the organisation in managing and supporting preceptees whilst acting as a positive model with very good communication and interpersonal skills.
The individual will work and support the new registrants in the clinical areas ensuring there is a bridging of the theory and knowledge gap whilst promoting initiatives and opportunities for the preceptees to flourish in their learning in practice and in the classroom. There will the ample opportunity to ensure and offer professional and practical guidance both to the preceptees and their managers and assessors in the clinical practice. This is a very rewarding position that allows the individual contribute to the development of the nursing workforce.

- RN (Adult) Evidence of self development
- Recognised mentorship qualification/Practice Assessor (ENB 998, Mentorship in Practice or equivalent)

- Post registration clinical experience in adult nursing at Band 5 and 6
- Ability to work without direct supervision
- Knowledge of Preceptorship, CapitalNurse framework and competency assessment
